诚实的荷兰人—金井盖与银井盖一名诚实的荷兰人带着一个井盖过河时，不小心将井盖掉落河中。失去了当天收入的荷兰人嚎啕大哭，小仙女怜悯他，于是便掏出一块金井盖问诚实的荷兰人掉的是这个吗？荷兰人回答不是。小仙女又掏出一块银井盖问了同样的问题，荷兰人还是诚实回答。当小仙女掏出那块掉落的铁井盖时，荷兰人表示那块才是自己今天顺走的井盖。小仙女认为荷兰人很诚实，于是把三块井盖都送给了荷兰人。但是诚实的荷兰人力气不够同时拿走三块，于是他将铁井盖扔在原地将金银两块井盖拿回家了。
邻居是一个狡猾的荷兰人，他听到这件事后很羡慕。于是也将一块铁井盖扔进河里装作大哭，小仙女出线询问他是否掉了金井盖时，他回答了是之后小仙女就消失，连那块铁的井盖都没有还给他。
同村的暴躁荷兰人听说这件事后，也去了河边如法炮制。当小仙女出线时，暴躁的荷兰人抢在前面“靠嫩娘把金井盖交出来，不然用井盖把河流截断让恁没地方住只能来我们村给所有人当媳妇”吓得小仙女立刻交出了金井盖。
