Exactly. None of us can relate to what that is like. The Chinese people decided never to allow that to happen again. So, hence, why their cuisine can seem so exotic. To them, it’s food. Of course I’m over simplifying this and this famine happened so long ago that it isn’t really relevant today, but that’s how much it impacted their culture. The food you see in restaurants isn’t Chinese cuisine, at all. I’ve worked with Chinese people and ate what they ate. These people did not speak English. Yes/no, hi/bye was the extent. Im not exaggerating. There was one person who spoke enough English to employ Americans. I’m Asian as well and can eat a lot of stuff people wouldn’t dare touch. But even some of the traditional stuff they prepared, at their house, I wasn’t able to eat. That is saying a lot. Believe me. It wasn’t “gross” to me, it was just too foreign for my Americanized pallet. The thing that I took away from their cuisine was that it reminded me of indigenous people, like native Americans. Who utilized every part of the animal. With that said, almost everything I had was good and I would eat on a regular basis if I could.
