There's two cases here.

The pigs vetting buried alive are avoided at all costs. Disease can spread to humans too (swine flu). They try to get rid of them in the fastest, cheapest way possible.

The pigs being knifed aren't being burned. They collect the blood to make food.

Drowning is extremely painful until the point that the water fill your lungs. Gas is… hard to contain and incredibly hazardous, and the capability of controlling the dosage and seal for the gas wouldn’t be adequate enough in rural areas, I’d imagine. Nah, that’s not really realistic. I have seen all the methods of putting pigs down and they are not humane. Things like puncturing a pigs 🐷 head have very high fail rates and most likely make them unconscious until they got boiled alive while drowning to wash the dirty skin. And in CO2 chambers sometimes pigs get suffocated for quite a long time in gas chambers and convulse and spasm screaming for air. I have seen videos of abuse pretty much trying to put down a pig. Watch a slaughterhouse documentary or something.
