Suggestions:

I don't know why. Probably there is something illicit in the contract, even by the China laws' standard.

Li's case got viral last year in China internet, and the whole society was astonished by Huawei's new low. It somehow proved the liaison between Huawei and China authority, and it drew tons of unwanted attention on Huawei. And of course, Huawei would be much more careful when they're dealing with employment issues.

The audio recordings between Li and Huawei HR were the keys to set Li free in the end. Hence, Huawei won't allow any employee to bring phones with them during the contract signing phase.
