每天一篇英文日本恐怖故事--They just stared at me

One day I was out with my girlfriend in the food court. It was pretty busy, so I told her what I wanted to eat and went to go and get a seat for us. As I was sitting there, I got a call from a customer, but the food court was too noisy to hear anything. There was nothing else I could do, so I put our bags down on the chair and walked away to find somewhere quiet. The conversation was soon over, but when I returned our bags were on the ground and several women were sitting in our seats.

It was my fault for getting up and walking away, but you would think that seeing someone’s bags on a chair meant that they were still sitting there. I got pissed off, but I said in a calm, gentlemanly tone,

“I’m sorry, but those are my seats.”

One of the women looked in my direction.

“There were bags there, right? I just got up for a second, those are my seats,” I explained.

The woman continued to stare at me, expressionless.

“…………”

Now you might be saying that you can understand her position, but hear me out. I was already upset, and she was being rude so I got even more pissed off and raised my tone.

“Hey, are you even listening to me?!”

Another women turned and looked at me, expressionless.

“…………………”

What the hell? To be honest, they were starting to scare me. I mean, it clearly wasn’t a normal reaction. It wasn’t like they were ignoring me on purpose or making fun of me or anything. They were reacting to me, looking right at me, but it was like my words weren’t getting through to them, or like I’d encountered something that wasn’t quite human but looked just like one.

‘This is dangerous, I better just give up,’ I thought, and then my girlfriend approached carrying our food. I felt bad that she’d gone to all the trouble of getting our food while our seats had been taken and tried explaining to her what happened.

“I’m sorry, I got up for just a second to deal with something and then our seats got taken.”

She looked right at me.

Then everyone around me, all at once, turned and looked at me with the same blank expression on their faces.
