1. Their roots are in people who were really ultra right wing or outright nazi that's true, they still have a nationalistic culture this is also true. Most of the fascist buzzword news i think were made specifically for western media and was funded by Russia as means to lower western support for Ukraine.Seen some senators throwing this around when Trump was im power, i think at the time it was to attack Trumps standing kinda like "look hes sponsoring nazis by giving Ukraine arms etc."

2. AndriyBiletsky their founder who have run for parlament as independent(with no success), claims to have severed ties with them(which is of course bullshit). But think of it this way, if some MAGA pilitician had ties with some specific marines platoon, would that make all of the marines there Trump supporters? That guys also spewed some hardcore shit about needing to unite ukrainian nationalists and russian ones way before Crimea annexion, so I'm fairly certain he won't gain much traction.

3. One of the propaganda tactics used by Russia during Crime annexion and later Donbass is claiming that people there speak russian so they are russian (just imagine this used with other countries and languages and you will see how absurd this is).
   Historicaly eastern regions are mostly russian speaking since a lot of russians settled there during USSR times, often not by their own choice as it was one of the industrial centers and young specialists were relocated there either by party assignment or right after graduation(free education in USSR meant that the party decided where you are going to be working after graduation for at least 3 years, my friends father got assigned to kamchatka in this way, luckuly my friends mother was patient enough)). That is also the region that had a been repopulated with russian settlers after holodomor.
   Most of the Azov speak russian, in their newest videos they try to speak ukrainian since this is a kind of movement right now in the country as part of cutting ties with Russia and everyone with ukrainian passport knows it.Most of their core members that are still alive are from russian speaking regions of Ukraine, namely Mariupol is their base which is a city on the coast of Azov sea.

4. The view i hear on Azov from western media feels the same as Russian media view on blm, lgtb etc. Highlighting the bad parts, omitting the real meaning and purpose. For those who don't speak Russian last ten years the idea pushed in the media was that black people can only loot and live of welfare while commiting 70% of crimes happening in USA, similar bullshit about me too, feminism etc. And yes we have a lot of Russian media, even cable, shows how much they tried to integrate us even after USSR dissolution, other former states had the same situation before they moved trip EU.

5. Calling all of azov fascist/nazis is the same as calling every Mexican a drug dealer. With all the history America had of labeling a portion of people something bad especially when politics are involved I'd think more would think twice.

6. By the moment I'm writing this they are already war heroes, their battalion had held a city being surrounded and cut off from supply lines for 3 whole weeks. As Beau had pointed out this most likely will lead to their influence increasing, the thing is that they are pro ukraine, fuck Russia nationalists, and not the "we need a strong leader and tight state control" guys, the ones i talked too when they were in my city are very democratic, maybe because that's exactly what Russia didn't want for us. Really from my point of view and all the media i see on US they are just like marines being deployed with all the 'America fuck yeah" and freedom cool aid that can be seen on media. So unless there is proof that someone is nazi please don't repeat it take some responsibility for your words, and some journalist or senator saying they have "sources" is not credible.

7. Are there neo-nazis among them? Most likey, since military lends to such views nicely, i bet that if you would investigate political views of any military memeber in the world you would find some right and ultra right people, and the harder the unit is the more you would find until you encounter people that think what Hitler did was wrong but they could do better. Thing is there are not a lot of them, since Ukraine in intself is multinational country, azov itslef has belarusiian, russian and jewish members to my knowledge and territorial defence force linked to them is even more diverse.

8. The important part is that no one here like 'nazis' and even ultra-right are met with prejudice, if they have marches for 'free ukraine' etc. we are okay with it, if someone starts spewing some bullshit about racial cleannes or 'strong leadership with unification under one idea' he gets his ass beaten we had enough of that in USSR.

9. On the 'nazi' symbols. Founders say that azov emblem is composed from first lettes of 'nations idea' and has nothing to do with wolfsangel, but personally seeing were they came from i doubt that. However lets not sweep everything under one rug, Wolfsangel is older than Hitler and still used on coat of arms of many german cities. wolfsangel.Same thing with 'kolovrat', it was a pagan symbol for slavs even when germany was just a place in the Holy Roman Empire.
