Recently, the nation in the world most criticized for supporting Russia, is China. Notably what the public seems to be taught and convinced.

The CCP may be the nation most criticized after Russia and the western public opinion about the CCP is at an all-time low, with something like only 20 % of those surveyed having a favorable view - in contrast with almost 80 % favorable for Taiwan.

From an outsider, I do not see the problem - other than little being done to improve things.

I think you can also influence this greatly. Because the target is not the news or politicians - it's the people. Like the people here on Reddit. The great translation movement has huge consequences on understanding China better, finding, discussing disagreements, and calling out propaganda.

If there is a disagreement between China and other nations, it is also great to have insiders' points of views, and it means a lot when nations like Lithuania can be recognized for their stand (whether accidental or not).

Are you saying that the problem is that other nations should do more about the situation in China and not just report on it?

I would agree with you on that (although curious what you think should be done).

However, if I am not mistaken, OP is saying that news outlets are now too afraid to report negatively about China. I have not witnessed this myself - there is a lot of critique, just shifting topics (I suppose that is a negative.. there is almost no news about Myanmar anymore, just when it happened).

Why is it said that news do not report critically about China anymore?

I think the OP means western media don't bother report the situation in China, as stupid Chinese themselves resists western reporters, like Stockholm syndrome.

Anyone who cared about China will be like ones in this subreddit eventually. You can watch the recent video of Youtuber Christoph Rehage who has a channel on his thought on Chinese things.

I misunderstood the point of the OP then.

Yes, this seems to be a real concern. Both for citizens reporting and for journalists.

It also seems to be a tactic among some apologists at the moment - unless a report can be verified, it is branded as unreliable - which usually you cannot do anything about - and the more serious problem is that if it can be verified, then whoever reported is in jeopardy.

What can be done about it though? Isn't anonymous posting online a safe enough option? It would seem to me that message boards and such would become highly popular.

What about tech like StarLink? It might not be very popular now but perhaps down the line, it would be common and easy to integrate with tech you can make yourself. Could that change the game?

If the US and Europe were to sanction China for censorship, do you think they would actually change things or would it just create more conflict?

Do you think that perhaps 50 years from now, if China was much more prosperous still, then things like self expression could come to matter more, and some of the restrictions removed?
